I thought about breaking this up into smaller month-by-month posts, but in the end it was more convenient to do one massive byline roundup.
This covers a lot—though not nearly all—of the journalism, copywriting and translation I was doing between August 2015 and the date of this post.
- “Preventing a Fall,” an article on the benefits of vigorous mind–body exercise for the elderly (InHealth, August-September)
- “Rock Opera and Fart Jokes,” a preview of the collaborative Eastern Washington University-led production of Twelfth Night (Inlander, August 6)
- A press release (one of many) for PrinterLogic spotlighting the results of several independent TechValidate surveys that reflected customers’ impressive gains in efficiency and ROI (August 11)
- “The Grand Experiment,” a profile of interactive artist Alan Chatham and his art program and gallery space known as Laboratory (Inlander, September 17)
- “All for Show,” an article on Spokane Children’s Theatre and its 70th anniversary; the piece is also bundled with a preview of noteworthy upcoming shows (Inlander, September 17)
- “Image Conscious,” a preview of the Spokane Civic Theatre’s season-opening production of Catch Me If You Can, The Musical (Inlander, September 17)
- “Comedy Most Slapstick,” a review of Play On!, the opener to Ignite! Community Theatre’s 11th season (Inlander, September 24)
- “Oktober in September,” an article highlighting the return of Oktoberfest celebrations to Spokane after a 30-year hiatus (Inlander, September 24)
- “Family Lies,” a review of Other Desert Cities at The Modern-Spokane (Inlander, October 1)
- It was around this time that I wrote (or had already written) several case studies for PrinterLogic: Banner Bank, Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, Thompson Tractor, Oklahoma City Community College, Children’s Bureau, Inc., the Cincinnati Police Department and Laser Spine Institute.
- “Hot ‘Hoods,” an overview of the post-recession housing market in the Inland Northwest and a diverse look at some neigborhoods of note from around the region (Annual Manual, Autumn 2015)
- “Riot Act,” a review of Haymarket Eight at Stage Left Theater (Inlander, October 29)
- Around this point I began writing (unbylined) the 2015 Holiday Pulse, a weekly guide to events, retailers and restaurants in downton Spokane sponsored in part by the Downtown Spokane Partnership. You can view the December 3 installment in my portfolio.
- “Beautiful Vacuity,” a review of The Wild Party at The Modern-Spokane (Inlander, November 19)
- The Live Performance section of the Inlander‘s 2015 Holiday Guide. Not-so-fun fact: With my iPad battery inching toward empty, I wrote and submitted this amid the blackout following the area’s freak windstorm that uprooted trees and downed power lines across Spokane (Inlander, November 26)
- About here I finished a year-long brochure project commemorating the Spokane Arena’s 20th anniversary.
- And about here I wrapped up a German-to-English translation of AMG Peak Performance, a brochure showcasing the 2016 trainings and events offered as part of the AMG Driving Academy. You can view this project in my portfolio.
- “Kicking Ass and Taking Names,” a preview of Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins at Stage Left (Inlander, December 3)
- “Full Steam Ahead,” a feature article on the history of steamboating on Lake Coeur d’Alene. The story was also published as part of the book Inlander Histories, Vol. 2 (Inlander, December 3)
- “Win or Die,” a preview of the Spokane Civic Theatre’s Hunger Games-inspired production of Les liaisons dangereuses (Inlander, January 14)
- “Things Past” a review of All My Sons at The Modern-Coeur d’Alene (Inlander, January 28)
