{"id":991,"date":"2018-04-22T10:42:19","date_gmt":"2018-04-22T17:42:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?p=991"},"modified":"2020-01-27T10:06:49","modified_gmt":"2020-01-27T18:06:49","slug":"new-portfolio-items-brief-byline-roundup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?p=991","title":{"rendered":"New portfolio items, brief byline roundup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a little more than two years, I figured it was high time to put aside a few hours to add some new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?page_id=572\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">portfolio<\/a> items and make some tiny visual tweaks to this site \u2014 mostly related to how the portfolio rendered and how uniformly the projects were presented.<\/p>\n<p>It took quite a bit of trial and error to determine that the odd &#8220;missing teeth&#8221; gaps in the one-page portfolio display were being caused by titles and descriptions that exceeded a certain character count. And it was that tedious trial-and-error process that I&#8217;d been dreading.<\/p>\n<p>What was added?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?portfolio=spokane-auto-show-2018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Spokane Auto Show brochure<\/a>: 2018 marks the second year that I&#8217;ve written this in its entirety (save for the welcome message).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?portfolio=printerlogic-2017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A PrinterLogic case study for Oklahoma City Community College<\/a>: This is one of about two dozen case studies I&#8217;ve done for PrinterLogic over the past couple of years.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?portfolio=astronics-test-systems-2016\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">An Astronics &#8220;Solution Brief&#8221; white paper<\/a>: Designed for a specialist high-tech audience, this discusses the advantages of massively parallel system-level testing.<\/li>\n<li>Two recent&nbsp;<em>Health &amp; Home<\/em> articles: One on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?portfolio=health-home-under-pressure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">performance anxiety in children<\/a>, the other on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?portfolio=health-home-stepping-into-success\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">challenges and rewards of step-parenting<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are also new or updated excerpt descriptions, better previews and additional details to existing projects, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?portfolio=gonzaga-magazine\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">these profiles<\/a> I did for&nbsp;<em>Gonzaga Magazine<\/em> a few years ago.<\/p>\n<p>For every cutting that makes its way into the portfolio, there are a dozen that don&#8217;t. Here&#8217;s a quick journalism byline roundup from the past few weeks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-tls.co.uk\/articles\/private\/film-98\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">brief book review<\/a>&nbsp;(subscriber-only) of Wheeler Winston Dixon&#8217;s&nbsp;<em>Black and White Cinema<\/em>&nbsp;(<em>TLS<\/em>, February 20)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/classical-crossover-is-no-different-from-fusion-cuisine-says-cellist-maria-ahn\/Content?oid=8265467\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vienna Calling<\/a>,&#8221; an interview with Maria Ahn previewing the Spokane Symphony&#8217;s &#8216;Vienna, City of Dreams&#8217; concert (<em>Inlander<\/em>, February 22)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/tech-tycoon-elliot-leeds-has-hacked-eternal-life-in-spokane-civics-latest-can-his-wife-and-friends-learn-to-love-his-avatar\/Content?oid=8528956\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Screen Time<\/a>,&#8221; a review of the Spokane Civic Theatre&#8217;s production of Two Point Oh (<em>Inlander<\/em>, March 8)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/from-first-graders-imaginings-to-24-hour-turnarounds-stage-lefts-festival-lineup-has-something-for-everyone\/Content?oid=8684101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Feeling Festive<\/a>,&#8221; a preview of the myriad upcoming festivals at Stage Left Theater (<em>Inlander<\/em>, March 15)<\/li>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/robert-schumann-johannes-brahms-and-this-weekend-the-spokane-symphony-find-inspiration-in-roberts-talented-wife-clara\/Content?oid=9259600\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Love Triangle<\/a>,&#8221; a preview of the Spokane Symphony&#8217;s concert featuring works by Robert Schumann, Brahms and Bach&nbsp;(<em>Inlander<\/em>, April 12)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It&#8217;s now almost May, which means that most of my free time is going to be taken up with community volunteering, at least until the <a href=\"http:\/\/market.emersongarfield.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emerson-Garfield Farmers&#8217; Market<\/a>&nbsp;season ends in late September. In other words, it could be a while before the next update.
