{"id":485,"date":"2015-01-12T11:07:40","date_gmt":"2015-01-12T19:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?p=485"},"modified":"2015-12-19T16:49:32","modified_gmt":"2015-12-20T00:49:32","slug":"new-articles-reviews-jazz-aces-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iannelli.us\/?p=485","title":{"rendered":"New articles &#038; reviews: Jazz, ACEs, gift guides &#038; more"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yet another roundup of recent articles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/go-directly-to-jail\/Content?oid=2372808\">Go Directly to Jail<\/a>,&#8221; a review of <em>The Clink<\/em>, a new musical by local composer and playwright Tom Cooper and Kristin Cooper Herby, at Stage Left Spokane (<em>Inlander<\/em>, October 30)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/modern-times\/Content?oid=2378981\" target=\"_blank\">Modern Times<\/a>,&#8221; an update on the merger of Interplayers Theater with Lake City Playhouse to become The Modern Spokane\/Coeur d&#8217;Alene (<em>Inlander<\/em>, November 13)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Starting the week of November 20 and ending December 18, I wrote (unbylined) the <em>Downtown Spokane Holiday Pulse<\/em> supplement in the <em>Inlander<\/em>, which highlights local businesses. <a href=\"http:\/\/issuu.com\/theinlander\/docs\/inlander_12-18-2014\/58\" target=\"_blank\">Here&#8217;s the December 18 issue<\/a> as an example (<em>Inlander<\/em>, November 20)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/theater-a-christmas-carol\/Content?oid=2382954\" target=\"_blank\">review<\/a> of the musical adaptation of Dickens&#8217; <em>A Christmas Carol<\/em> at the Spokane Civic Theatre (<em>Inlander<\/em>, November 25)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/understanding-aces\/Content?oid=2386137\" target=\"_blank\">Understanding ACEs<\/a>,&#8221; an article on adverse childhood experiences, or ACEs, with a focus on\u00a0the pioneering research and solutions being carried out or adopted in Spokane (<em>InHealth<\/em>, Dec 2014-Jan 2015 issue). This article benefitted greatly from the oversight of <em>InHealth<\/em> editor Anne McGregor; I was grateful for her additions, input and edits when getting to grips with\u00a0such a complex topic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/a-joyful-noise\/Content?oid=2387342\" target=\"_blank\">A Joyful Noise<\/a>,&#8221; a preview of <em>Church Basement Ladies: A Second Helping<\/em> at The Modern Spokane (<em>Inlander<\/em>, December 11)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/garland-district\/Content?oid=2387917\" target=\"_blank\">A holiday shopping guide<\/a> to Spokane&#8217;s Garland District (<em>Inlander<\/em>, December 11)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/silent-night-on-the-western-front\/Content?oid=2389870\" target=\"_blank\">Silent Night on the Western Front<\/a>,&#8221; a review of <em>All Is Calm<\/em> at The Modern Coeur d&#8217;Alene (<em>Inlander<\/em>, December 18)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inlander.com\/spokane\/books\/Content?oid=2389898\" target=\"_blank\">books portion<\/a> (jointly with Ted McGregor) of the <em>Inlander<\/em>&#8216;s 2014 <em>Holiday Gift Guide<\/em> (<em>Inlander<\/em>, December 18)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ink19.com\/issues\/january2015\/musicReviews\/schooner.html\" target=\"_blank\">A belated review<\/a>\u00a0of <em>Neighborhood Veins<\/em>, the third full-length from NC-based band Schooner (<em>Ink 19<\/em>, January 7, 2015)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.allaboutjazz.com\/nick-hemptons-catch-and-release-nick-hempton-by-eric-j-iannelli.php\" target=\"_blank\">Catching up with: Nick Hempton&#8217;s <em>Catch &amp; Release<\/em><\/a>, a profile of the NYC-based Australian saxophonist and his new recording\/distribution experiment. My first article for AAJ since 2010 (<em>All About Jazz<\/em>, January 12)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There&#8217;s one review from 2014 still in the editorial hopper: It&#8217;s on a BFI critical companion to <em>Dr. Strangelove<\/em> for the <em>TLS<\/em>. No word on when that&#8217;s scheduled to run.
